  • Haunted Canada: The Screaming Tunnel, Niagara Falls, Canada

The Screaming Tunnel is a small limestone tunnel, running underneath what once was the Grand Trunk Railway lines (now the Canadian National Railways), located in the northwest corner of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

A local legend recounts that the tunnel is haunted by the ghost of a young girl, who after escaping a nearby burning farm building with her clothing ablaze, died within its walls. Several variants of the legend exist locally, one version has the girl set on fire by her enraged father after he loses custody of his children after a nasty divorce. Another tells of a young girl being raped inside the tunnel and her body burned to prevent any evidence from being found. All versions of these legends ends with the girl screams filling up the tunnel as she was burning to death.

  • Haunted USA: Alcatraz Spectral Visitor

Teaching assistant Sheila Sillery-Walsh from Birmingham took the photo on her iPhone 5c when she visited the former prison in April while on holiday in San Francisco with her partner, Paul Rice.

The 48-year-old said: “Alcatraz Penitentiary is a must-see for any tourist. However as soon as we entered the prison, everything felt very eerie. I didn’t feel comfortable there.

“Whilst doing an audio-tour of the place, I casually stopped to take a snap of the empty visitation block window on my iPhone.”

The couple have tried to find out the identity of the ghostly woman in the photo by contacting staff at the Alcatraz site, but none of the old-timers could recognize the woman in the picture.

“I am so curious to know who she could be though – perhaps she was a female visitor of a prisoner who kept returning back. I would love to know why she’s shown herself in my photo.

“Weirdly when we were near that cell, a woman came on the audio tour who used to visit a prisoner. It makes you wonder.”

  • Paranormal TV: Psychic Investigators, Season 1

I am mostly done watching season one of Psychic Investigators on Prime Video, and I am really enjoying it. When I started watching it, I was expecting it to be about psychics who crack unsolved crimes. So far, it isn’t like that at all. Instead, it is a true crime show that details how police investigate and solve murders, with a psychic giving his or her predictions alongside the investigation. In most episodes, the investigator or detective may accept the psychic’s input but doesn’t solve the crime with it. Only after the crime has been solved do the police look back and confirm how bizarre it was that the psychic was so bang on.

I am a sucker for stories about spirits and ghosts communicating from “the other side,” and Psychic Investigators has this kind of content in spades!

  • Paranormal TV: The R.I.P. Files

I just finished watching season 1 of the ghost hunting show The R.I.P. Files on Prime Video and really enjoyed it. It includes many EVPs captured during creepy investigations. I particularly like that the locations they visit are accompanied by historical facts and stories, and they usually have a tour guide with them who shares stories of having encountered ghosts. I also like that, when a location does not have much ghost activity, they do another type of paranormal exercise like a seance. There are two more seasons on Prime that I look forward to watching all at once!

  • Haunted USA: Spooky Selfie

A girl’s chilling selfie in a car appears to show a ‘child ghost’ sitting in the back seat which paranormal experts believe was a warning from beyond the grave.

Melissa Kurtz, 48, was driving her daughter Harper to a beauty pageant when the 13-year-old became bored and started taking snaps of herself.

However the mum-of-two claims she later spotted the ghostly face of a young boy lurking behind Harper – despite insisting there was one else in the car with them.

Researching the stretch of road they were travelling on, Melissa discovered that the spooky selfie coincided with the anniversary of a deadly road accident which she thinks could have involved the same little lad.

  • Ancient Egyptian Ghost Story

The best-known ghost story from ancient Egypt is known, simply, as A Ghost Story but sometimes referenced as Khonsemhab and the Ghost. The story dates from the late New Kingdom of Egypt (c. 1570 – c.1069 BCE) and specifically the Ramesside Period (1186-1077 BCE).

An excerpt from W.K. Simpson’s The Literature of Ancient Egypt: An Anthology of Stories, Instructions, Stelae, Autobiographies, and Poetry:

Then the High Priest of Amun Khonsemhab said to him: “Please tell me your name, your father’s name, and your mother’s name that I may offer to them and do for them all that has to be done for those in their position.” The august spirit then said to him: “Nebusemekh is my name, Ankhmen is my father’s name, and Tamshas is my mother’s name.”

Then the High Priest of Amun-Re, King of the Gods, Khonsemhab said to him; “Tell me what you want that I may have it done for you. And I shall have a sepulcher prepared anew for you and have a coffin of gold and zizyphus-wood made for you, and you shall [rest therein] and I shall have done for you all that is done for one who is in your position.”

The august spirit then said to him: “No one can be overheated who is exposed to wintry wind, hungry without food… It is not my desire to overflow like the inundation, not…not seeing my tomb… I would not reach it. There have been made to me promises…”

Now after [he] had finished speaking, the High Priest of Amun-Re, King of the Gods, Khonsemhab, sat down and wept beside him with a face full of tears. And he addressed the spirit, saying, “How badly you fare without eating or drinking, without growing old or becoming young. Without seeing sunlight or inhaling northerly breezes. Darkness is in your sight every day. You do not get up early to leave.”
